Arua – Uganda.
20th November 2025
The Uganda Police Force has released a detailed report concerning the disturbances that occurred during a campaign rally held by opposition politician Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, also known as Bobi Wine, in the Arua area. The incident, marked by gunfire and the use of tear gas, has been attributed by police to what they describe as “defiant conduct” by the candidate and his supporters.
According to the statement, Kyagulanyi allegedly declined to follow the officially designated campaign route through Onduparaka town, opting instead to force his way through the area. Police report that he concealed his face with a motorcycle helmet and later rode on a motorcycle without a number plate as he moved with supporters toward the rally venue.
Authorities say the situation quickly escalated, resulting in what they characterized as “chaotic scenes.” During the unrest, several police vehicles were reportedly damaged by individuals believed to be Kyagulanyi’s supporters.
Police added that 32 suspects have so far been arrested in connection with the incident. The arrests were made after investigators reviewed CCTV footage captured in the area.
The report concludes by noting that investigations are still underway, and additional suspects may be identified as police continue to analyze available evidence.
