KAMPALA, Uganda
Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Clive Nsiima Barigye has been released on bail after being charged with assault and threatening violence.
Nsiima appeared before the City Hall Criminal Court (KCCA), where Magistrate Nicholas Aisu granted him bail of UGX 1 million cash and UGX 5 million non-cash for his sureties.
The officer had been remanded to Luzira Prison earlier this week following the circulation of a CCTV video showing him slapping a female shop attendant at a fuel station in Kyanja, Kampala.
He pleaded not guilty to the charges. The prosecution opposed bail, citing public interest, but the magistrate ruled in his favor, saying he was entitled to bail under the law.
The case has been adjourned to November 5, 2025, for mention. Meanwhile, the policeโs disciplinary court has recommended his dismissal from the force.
