Bayern Munich edged past a spirited Flamengo side in a thrilling 4-2 contest to advance to the Club World Cup quarterfinals on Sunday.

Harry Kane notched a brace as the Bundesliga powerhouse added another chapter to Europe’s dominance over South American teams in the global competition. Flamengo’s coach Filipe Luis later remarked that “the football elite remain in Europe.”

Next up, Vincent Kompany’s men will clash with reigning European champions Paris Saint-Germain in Atlanta, with a semifinal spot on the line.

Despite roaring support from a sea of Flamengo fans at Hard Rock Stadium, the Brazilian side couldn’t turn their resilience into a result. Bayern struck early—Joshua Kimmich fired the opener in the sixth minute, and Kane doubled the lead just four minutes later.

While Bayern looked set for a blowout, Flamengo found some rhythm. Luiz Araujo’s dazzling run down the left set up Gerson, who blasted a stunning strike beyond Manuel Neuer in the 33rd minute, electrifying the 60,000-strong crowd.

Yet Bayern’s efficiency proved decisive. Shortly before halftime, a miscued clearance by Araujo landed at the feet of Leon Goretzka, who calmly drove the ball into the corner from distance, restoring Bayern’s two-goal cushion.
