The Buganda Kingdom has inaugurated a special organizing committee to plan the 71st birthday celebrations of the Kabaka. The team will be chaired by Owek. Chotilda Nakate Kikomeko, Minister for Education, Health, and the Office of the Queen Mother, with support from the Kingdom’s spokesperson, Owek. Israel Kazibwe Kitooke.

Committee members include Owek. Noah Kiyimba, Owek. Robert Serwanga, Owek. Joseph Kawuki, Mrs. Josephine Nantege, Eng. Patrick Ssembajjo, Remmy Kisakye, among others. The committee was officially unveiled by the Deputy Katikkiro II, Owek. Hajji Prof. Twaha Kaawaase Kigongo, representing the Katikkiro.

The Kabaka’s birthday is one of Buganda’s most celebrated cultural events, marked annually with grandeur and community spirit. Past festivities have featured cultural exhibitions, charity drives, health camps, and large gatherings at Lubiri Palace and other venues. These occasions not only honor the Kabaka’s leadership but also unite subjects and well-wishers from across Uganda.
As the Kabaka turns 71, the committee is expected to organize a blend of cultural, social, and charitable activities that balance tradition with modernity. Thousands of participants are anticipated, reaffirming the Kabaka’s role as a cultural symbol and unifier of the Buganda Kingdom.
