Chaos erupted at the National Unity Platform (NUP) headquarters in Makerere Kavule on Monday following the arrest of Steven Kaweesa, a parliamentary aspirant for the Nansana Municipality seat.
Kaweesa had reportedly gone to the NUP offices to collect nomination documents ahead of the upcoming elections when security forces intervened. According to eyewitnesses, police fired live bullets into the air and tear gas to disperse party members and supporters who had gathered at the premises.
The scene quickly descended into panic, with party members scattering in different directions.
