Kampala, Uganda
Former Makindye West MP Allan Ssewanyana has announced he will run as an independent candidate in the upcoming parliamentary elections after being denied a National Unity Platform (NUP) party ticket.
The NUP parliamentary flag for Makindye West was instead awarded to Zahara Luyirika, prompting Ssewanyana to pursue the seat independently.
Ssewanyana, a well-known opposition figure, emphasized his commitment to represent people of Makindye West despite the party’s decision. His independent bid is expected to create a highly contested race in the constituency.
