Police in Kasese District have foiled an early morning attack on the Kasese Main Police Barracks, leaving four suspected assailants dead and five others in custody.
According to police reports, the incident occurred at around 5:00 a.m. when armed individuals stormed the barracks, firing several shots into the air. Officers on duty responded swiftly, engaging the attackers in a brief exchange of fire.
The spokesperson for the Rwenzori East Regional Police Nelson Tumushime confirmed that the attackers, who were dressed in civilian clothing, were armed with pangas, guns, and catapults. The joint security team managed to overpower them, neutralizing four and arresting five others at the scene.
Several people were injured during the confrontation and were rushed to nearby health facilities for treatment. The exact number and condition of the victims have not yet been established.
Security has since been reinforced within and around the barracks as investigations continue to determine the identities of the assailants and the motive behind the attack.
Authorities have urged the public to remain calm and cooperate with security personnel as efforts to maintain order and safety in the area are intensified.
