The National Unity Platform (NUP) Presidenti and Presidential flagbearer, Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, set off from Mbarara City this morning heading to Bwizibwera in Mbarara District, where he is expected to address supporters in a campaign rally.
Kyagulanyi’s departure from Mbarara City drew attention from residents, traders, and commuters who lined the streets to catch a glimpse of the opposition leader as his convoy made its way through the city. Several NUP supporters, dressed in the party’s signature red attire, chanted slogans and waved flags as they accompanied the convoy toward Bwizibwera.
Speaking briefly before setting off, Kyagulanyi reiterated his message of change and unity, urging Ugandans to remain steadfast in the pursuit of freedom, justice, and equal opportunity. “We are moving across the country to remind Ugandans that power belongs to the people,” he said. “Our message remains consistent – we want a Uganda that works for everyone, not just a few.”
Security personnel were visibly deployed along the route as crowds gathered to welcome the NUP leader. Police in Mbarara confirmed that they were coordinating to ensure that the rally proceeds peacefully and in accordance with the campaign guidelines issued by the Electoral Commission.
In Bwizibwera, residents have been preparing for Kyagulanyi’s visit, with local NUP coordinators mobilizing supporters from neighboring areas. The rally is expected to focus on key campaign themes such as youth empowerment, healthcare, education, and tackling corruption.
Bobi Wine’s visit to Mbarara District forms part of his broader campaign trail across western Uganda a region traditionally viewed as a stronghold of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM). His presence in the area underscores NUP’s efforts to extend its reach beyond central and eastern Uganda.
Kyagulanyi is expected to continue to other districts in the western region in the coming days as part of his nationwide mobilization efforts ahead of the upcoming general elections.
