A man has been remanded to prison until November 17 on charges of forging documents bearing the President’s signature. The suspect, Male Nicholus, was sent to remand after allegedly writing a letter dated August 15, which appeared to come from the Office of the President.

The forged letter reportedly directed the Minister of Works and Transport to renew a 15-year contract for National Oil Distributors Limited, the company that operates the MV Kalangala ferry.

The letter was later forwarded to the Ministry of Justice and Constitutional Affairs and then to the offices of National Oil Distributors Limited in Ndeeba.

It is further alleged that Nicholus had been posing as the owner of the company and claimed to be working closely with the Office of the Prime Minister, saying he was in contact with several top government officials.
