Masaka – Uganda,
2nd February 2026
The Chief Magistrate of Masaka, Albert Asiimwe, in the early hours of today declared Justine Nameere of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) the duly elected Member of Parliament for Masaka City.
The declaration followed a three day recount of votes for the Masaka City parliamentary seat, which revealed that Nameere garnered 25,502 votes. The recount overturned the earlier results in which Rose Nalubowa of the National Unity Platform (NUP) had been declared winner with 23,176 votes.

According to the recount results, Nalubowa finished second, while the Democratic Front (DF) candidate and current area Member of Parliament, Juliet Nakabuye Kakande, came third with 6,136 votes. Independent candidate Nanyonga Sauya secured 5,921 votes.
However, the court noted that five ballot boxes that were found tampered with and unsealed were excluded from the recount and were not considered in the final tally.
The court’s decision marks a significant turn in the hotly contested Masaka City race and is expected to have major political implications in the area.
