Democratic Front (DF) party president Hon. Mathias Mpuuga Nsamba has rejected the presidential and parliamentary election results announced by the Uganda Electoral Commission, describing the entire electoral process as deeply flawed and illegitimate.
In a statement issued following the declaration of results, Mpuuga said the elections were marred by systematic vote rigging that undermined the will of the electorate. He accused the Electoral Commission of presiding over a process riddled with irregularities that, in his view, compromised the credibility of the outcome.
Among the key concerns raised by the DF leader was the delayed delivery of voting materials to several polling stations across the country. Mpuuga claimed the delays were deliberate and designed to disenfranchise voters, particularly in areas perceived to be opposition strongholds.
He also criticized the involvement of the military in the electoral process, arguing that the presence of armed forces at polling stations created an atmosphere of intimidation and fear among voters. According to Mpuuga, such involvement violated the principles of free and fair elections.
Additionally, Mpuuga faulted the Electoral Commission for failing to consistently use the Biometric Voter Verification Kit, a tool intended to prevent multiple voting and voter impersonation. He said the failure to deploy the technology as required opened the door to electoral fraud.
Mpuuga called on relevant authorities and stakeholders to address the alleged violations and urged Ugandans to remain vigilant in defending democratic principles. The Electoral Commission has yet to issue a detailed response to the specific allegations raised by the Democratic Front.
