President Yoweri Museveni has mourned the death of Kenya’s former Prime Minister Raila Amolo Odinga, describing him as a freedom fighter, statesman, and true Pan-Africanist.

In a statement from State House Entebbe, Museveni said he received the news “with great sadness,” praising Raila’s lifelong dedication to democracy, justice, and African unity.

“Raila was not only a Kenyan leader but a champion for the whole of Africa . Like his father, Jaramogi Oginga Odinga, he believed in regional integration and the East African spirit” Museveni said.

He urged young Africans to “carry forward the flame” of unity and patriotism that Raila embodied, adding that his passing leaves a major void in Africa’s leadership.

Museveni also extended condolences to Raila’s widow, Ida Odinga, and the people of Kenya, calling Raila’s death “a loss for the entire continent.”
