President Yoweri Museveni has underscored the critical role of peace in fostering national development and wealth creation, saying no meaningful progress can be achieved without stability.
Speaking during an interaction with leaders, President Museveni illustrated his point with the example of Kapchorwa District, which has become a major producer of Irish potatoes. He noted that while the region’s agricultural productivity is impressive, its success would be meaningless if there were no peace to ensure the safe transportation of produce to markets.
“Peace is the foundation of prosperity, even if you grow plenty of Irish potatoes in Kapchorwa, without peace they cannot reach the market.” President said.

The President also highlighted the government’s efforts to restore and maintain peace across the country, particularly in the Karamoja sub-region. He revealed that the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) have so far recovered 41,000 guns from the area, a figure he said is much higher than the total number of firearms that were in Idi Amin’s army.
Museveni commended the army for its vigilance and reiterated that peace and security remain key priorities for his administration, as they are essential pillars for sustainable development and wealth creation.
