President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has promised a safe, dignified, and permanent re – settlement for families displaced by landslides in Bulambuli District, assuring them that government will not abandon those living in disaster-prone areas on the slopes of Mt. Elgon.
While addressing supporters at an NRM campaign rally held at Nabbongo Secondary School playground on Thursday, Museveni announced that government had already secured 2,000 acres of land for the relocation of affected families. Each household will receive two acres of land and UGX 10 million to restart their lives.
He further revealed that UGX 50 billion had been earmarked to purchase additional land for families still residing in temporary camps.
“Each family is to have two acres and 10 million shillings. And there is 50 billion shillings to buy more land. That’s the current arrangement,” Museveni told the crowd.
The president reaffirmed that resettling people from high-risk areas remains a priority in the government’s disaster-management strategy.
