Kampala – Uganda
This morning, National Unity Platform leaders visited Kitalya Mini-Max Prison to check on the Deputy President, Hon. Muhammad Muwanga Kivumbi, who is currently detained after being charged with terrorism.
During the visit, Hon. Kivumbi was found to be in strong spirit and high morale. He encouraged party members and supporters to remain steadfast and continue the struggle, emphasizing that his detention is only a temporary phase in a broader journey for justice and freedom.
The Party’s legal team is actively working in coordination with other concerned lawyers to pursue all available legal avenues to secure his release from what the party has described as an unfortunate and unjust situation.

The delegation also checked on several comrades who have been held at Kitalya Prison for nearly five years. These include Machete Yasin Ssekitoleko, Gaddafi Mugumya, Wakabi Smart Grace, Kalanzi Sharif, Kintu Abdallah, among others. The detainees reiterated their call for continued public pressure and advocacy to push for their freedom.
The Party reaffirmed its commitment to standing with all detained members and supporters, pledging to intensify legal, political, and civic efforts until justice is served and all those unjustly detained are released.
