Masaka – Uganda
2nd February 2026
Rose Nalubowa, a member of the opposition National Unity Platform (NUP), has filed a petition in the High Court challenging the victory of National Resistance Movement (NRM) candidate Justine Nameere as the duly elected Member of Parliament for Masaka City following a disputed electoral tally.
Nalubowa contends that the election process was marred by irregularities, particularly during the counting and tabulation of votes, which she says did not reflect the will of the electorate. She maintains that the announced results were flawed and unfair.
Speaking after filing the petition, Nalubowa stated that she is determined to pursue the matter to its logical conclusion, emphasizing her commitment to defending what she believes is her rightful victory. She added that she will exhaust all legal avenues available to ensure justice is served.
It should be recalled that Nalubowa was initially declared the winner by the Electoral Commission before the final announcement that confirmed Justine Nameere of the NRM as the winner of the contested election.
The High Court is expected to hear the petition in the coming days as both parties prepare to present their evidence.
