Parliament Divided Over UPDF Bill
Following the opposition Members of Parliament’s condemnation of Parliament for passing the amendment to the UPDF Act under the directives of their leader Joel Ssenyonyi, these MPs convened a meeting at Hon. Ssenyonyi’s office at Parliament and announced their intention to challenge the government in courts of law.
They argue that the government acted in defiance of the Supreme Court’s directive concerning the cessation of trying civilians in military courts.
They further stated that Parliament’s approach of rushing this law is improper and that they were not informed about any changes that had been made to the bill.
