Noma Suzan Otai, a member of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) who sought to contest for the Bukedea District Woman Member of Parliament seat, has filed a lawsuit against Speaker of Parliament Anita Among and the Electoral Commission (EC), accusing them of unlawfully blocking her from the nomination process.

According to Otai, she was prevented from accessing the Electoral Commission offices when she arrived to submit her nomination documents. She alleges that amidst deliberate confusion, she was informed that she was ineligible to run on grounds that she is not a resident of the district – claims she strongly disputes. By the time order was restored, her nomination had not been processed.

Otai further states that despite raising the matter formally with the Electoral Commission, no action was taken to address her complaint. She is now asking the court to halt the registration of Speaker Anita Among as the duly nominated Bukedea District Woman MP for the 2026–2031 term until the EC resolves her petition.

In her suit, Otai accuses Speaker Among of interfering with the Electoral Commission’s procedures and undermining the integrity of the nomination process, allegations that form the basis of her legal challenge.
