Overnight Missile and Drone Strikes on Kyiv Leave Six Dead, Including Child

Russian forces launched a devastating overnight assault on Ukraine’s capital, Kyiv, using missiles and drones, killing at least six civilians — among them a six-year-old boy, according to Ukrainian officials.

Tymur Tkachenko, head of the Kyiv City Military Administration, reported that at least 52 people were injured, with casualty numbers expected to increase. One nine-story residential building suffered a partial collapse due to a direct missile hit, leaving multiple residents trapped beneath the rubble. Rescue operations are ongoing.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemned the attack on his official Telegram channel, stating: “Missile strike. Directly on a residential building. People are under the rubble. All services are on site.”

Images from the aftermath show smoke billowing from damaged buildings, with debris scattered across streets. Tkachenko noted that 27 locations across Kyiv were targeted, with the Solomianskyi and Sviatoshynskyi districts suffering the most severe destruction.

U.S. President Donald Trump said Tuesday he’s giving Russian President Vladimir Putin a shorter deadline — Aug. 8 — for peace efforts to make progress or Washington will impose punitive sanctions and tariffs.

Western leaders have accused Putin of dragging his feet in U.S.-led peace efforts in an attempt to capture more Ukrainian land.
