Today, Dr. Kizza Besigye, along with his aide Hajji Obeid Lutale Kamulegeya and UPDF officer Capt. Denis Oola, have appeared before the Nakawa Magistrates’ Court.
Their lawyer, Martha Karua, was present as they faced charges related to national security violations, including unlawful possession of a pistol and conspiracy against the state.
The court denied their request for bail, with Judge Christine Nantege ruling that due to the gravity of the charges, the Nakawa Magistrates’ Court lacks the jurisdiction to grant bail. She advised that the request be submitted to the High Court, which has the authority to decide on their release.
