Bishop David Kiganda Reflects on the Challenges of 2024, Calls for Prayer as Uganda Enters 2025
As the year 2024 comes to a close, Bishop David Kiganda has taken a moment to reflect on the numerous challenges that Uganda has faced. The past year has been marked by tragedy, with several incidents claiming almost 100 lives and leaving many more affected.
One of the earliest incidents was the Lubigi demolitions, where almost 1000 people lost their homes due to directives from the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) to demolish houses in swampy areas. Bishop Kiganda noted that this incident was particularly poignant, as it highlighted the unpredictability of life. “One can start the year as a landlord, but end it as a tenant,” he reflected, emphasizing the importance of being prepared for life’s setbacks.

Other incidents that Bishop Kiganda reflected on included the Kiteezi land fill tragedy, where 38 people lost their lives after being buried under a heap of garbage. The Kigoogwa fire outbreak, which claimed over 30 lives after a truck carrying petroleum fell and was set ablaze by onlookers, was another devastating incident. Additionally, the Bulambuli District landslides claimed over 30 lives, and a taxi fire in Jinja claimed the lives of 2 people.
Despite these challenges, Bishop Kiganda remains optimistic about the future. He has called on the people of God in Uganda to start the new year with prayer, seeking God’s guidance and direction for their lives in 2025. To this end, he has invited all believers to join him in prayer at the Old Kampala SS playground on December 31st.
As Uganda enters a new year, Bishop Kiganda’s message is one of hope and resilience. Despite the setbacks and challenges of 2024, he encourages believers to look to God for strength and guidance. By doing so, they can face the future with confidence and faith.
