State House, Entebbe – In a powerful address at the 3rd African Regional Inter-Parliamentary Conference, Uganda’s President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni called for a united stand to protect Africa’s cultural identity while accelerating continental integration.
Under this year’s theme, “Towards an African Charter on Family Values and Sovereignty,” President Museveni urged African leaders to reject foreign ideologies that undermine traditional family structures—a move he tied directly to the continent’s long-term stability.
“Our family systems are the bedrock of African society,” he declared. “But resistance alone isn’t enough. We must pair it with aggressive economic and political integration to control our destiny.”
The summit, attended by lawmakers and dignitaries across Africa, spotlighted growing concerns over external influences clashing with local norms. Museveni’s push for self-reliance through stronger intra-African trade and governance resonated deeply, positioning Uganda as a vocal advocate for sovereignty with action.
