Ayesiga Mukama Brighton, Presidential candidate
In a passionate address to Makerere University students today, youthful presidential aspirant Ayesiga Mukama Brighton delivered a sharp critique of Uganda’s political landscape, accusing past opposition leaders of failing the nation. Speaking to a charged crowd, Brighton declared that Uganda has lacked a serious and dedicated opposition for years, leaving citizens without genuine liberation from systemic challenges.
“Ugandans need a serious liberator. For years, the country has been misled by false, trusted opposition figures who do not have the nation’s best interests at heart,” Brighton stated. “This is the time we must rise up and make our country better.” His message resonated with many students, who expressed frustration with the current political climate and the perceived ineffectiveness of opposition parties.
Brighton, positioning himself as a fresh alternative, emphasized the need for a new generation of leaders committed to transparency, accountability, and real change. His rallying cry comes amid growing dissatisfaction among Uganda’s youth, who are increasingly vocal about unemployment, governance issues, and the need for political renewal. As the 2026 elections approach, voices like Brighton’s could signal a shifting tide in Uganda’s political dynamics.
