President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has signed the Appropriation Bill 2024 into law, marking a significant step in the country’s financial and economic planning for the coming fiscal year. The signing ceremony took place at State House, Entebbe, attended by key government officials, members of parliament, and stakeholders from various sectors.
The Appropriation Bill 2024, which was recently passed by Parliament, outlines the government’s expenditure for the next fiscal year. It includes provisions for critical sectors such as health, education, infrastructure, and security, aiming to foster economic growth and improve the livelihoods of Ugandans.
In his address, President Museveni emphasized the importance of prudent financial management and accountability in achieving the country’s development goals. “This bill reflects our commitment to ensuring that every shilling is used efficiently and effectively to benefit our citizens,” he said. “We must continue to prioritize investments that drive our economy forward and improve the quality of life for all Ugandans.”
The bill allocates significant funds to the health sector, focusing on enhancing healthcare services and facilities nationwide. This move comes in response to the ongoing challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic and other health issues. The education sector also receives substantial funding aimed at improving educational infrastructure, teacher training, and student welfare.
Infrastructure development remains a key priority, with considerable investments earmarked for road construction, energy projects, and other critical infrastructure initiatives. These projects are expected to create jobs, stimulate economic activity, and enhance connectivity within the country.
The security sector will receive funds to bolster national security and address emerging threats. This includes allocations for the Uganda People’s Defence Force (UPDF), police, and other security agencies to ensure peace and stability in the country.
Members of Parliament praised the bill’s balanced approach to addressing various national needs. “This appropriation bill is a testament to our collective effort to drive Uganda towards sustainable development,” said Hon. Jacob Oulanyah, the Speaker of Parliament. “It is crucial that we maintain transparency and accountability in implementing these budgetary allocations.”
The signing of the Appropriation Bill 2024 signifies the government’s readiness to embark on the new fiscal year with a clear financial roadmap. As Uganda continues to navigate the challenges of a dynamic global economy, the successful implementation of this budget will be pivotal in achieving the nation’s long-term development objectives.
The government has assured the public that measures are in place to monitor and evaluate the effective use of funds, ensuring that the intended benefits reach the grassroots level. President Museveni’s signing of the Appropriation Bill 2024 sets the stage for a year of focused development and progress for Uganda
