While attending the Mitooma District Youth Day Celebration at Bubangizi Secondary School Playground on Saturday, the Minister Of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, Hon. Norbert Mao informed Ugandans that President Museveni gave him a role to process the transition in three phases.
The statement clearly indicated that President Museveni still has the morale to show up among the candidates in the presidential race by 2026.
In his address Hon. Norbert Mao asked the people to support him in the transition assignment directed to him by President Museveni.
“I appeal for your support people of Mitooma and I know Gen Otafiire will support me in a bigger assignment that President Yoweri Museveni has given me to organize consensus _ that is what we need.”
Mao assured Ugandans to keep health through the phases the government is going through to realize the leadership transition.
” The transition will be in three phases. Phase one is the one we are on. Phase two is to implement what we have agreed upon. I believe by 2031, we shall have a new Uganda . Keep yourselves healthy so that you are there in 2031. Uganda will be built on the dreams of the young people and I’m here to challenge you to dream big. Know your value. It’s not about where you are from. It’s about where you are going,”said Mao.
The Vice President Jessica Alupo, clarified on the move for President Museveni to stand for 2026 elections when she said that many Ugandans are in support of the transition process and that the decision will be tabled to the president and Chairperson Electoral Commission for NRM Party.
“What we have signed today is already supposed by 70% of Uganda’s population and therefore…other segments now; elders, women will just come to reinforce in order for us to achieve in 2026. We shall table that matter before H.E the president and before CEC so that there is uniform and there is also an agreed position,” said Vice President Jessica Alupo.
This new development and changes in who will lead NRM party in the next elections, 2026, have come as a shock as Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba trickily used his birthday to show case his intentions in participating in the 2026 presidential elections.
President Museveni’s endorsement to stand as the NRM frag bearer in the next elections will appear when he has clocked 82 years of age. Museveni came to power in 1986, and he has ruled Uganda for over 30 years.
